Vanitas: [Lat.: hollow appearance, vanity, inanity]
The subject vanitas has often been treated throughout art history. The works of art based on this theme are to be understood as a symbolic depiction of perishability, as a reminder not to align one´s own values exclusively on finite matter.
I use rust as a symbol for transience and connect this with things which we are apt to hold on to. Oxidation sympolizes the process of destruction and finiteness. Representative of youth, beauty and health are nudes and flowers.
